NEBRASKA CULTURAL ENDOWMENT WELCOMES NEW BOARD MEMBER

Arts, Government, Humanities

Katie Weitz, PhD

The Nebraska Cultural Endowment welcomes Katie Weitz, PhD, to its Board of Directors. Katie is currently the executive director of the Weitz Family Foundation in Omaha. She brings to the board extensive non-profit leadership and fundraising experience, as well as a strong background in the arts and education.

After graduating from Carleton College with a BA in Political Science, Katie moved to Chicago and became a middle school teacher earning a M.Ed. from DePaul University.  She soon learned that the issues inside education were much broader than what happened in the classroom and returned to academia achieving a PhD in Human Development and Social Policy.  Katie moved home to Omaha for a dream job at The Sherwood Foundation and spent six years there growing as a professional and as a person.  Taking what she learned there, she has now turned her focus to her own family’s foundation, which works with grassroots agencies and large institutions who demonstrate vision, integrity, creativity and passion.

NCE Executive Director Marian Fey said, “Katie’s leadership in the Omaha philanthropic community and her personal dedication to making Nebraska a great place for everyone to live makes her a wonderful fit for the Cultural Endowment Board of Directors. I look forward to working with her.”
